Letter to Members

 June 4th, 2021

Dear Fundy YMCA Members and our community at large,

As you are all aware, in April, due to the increase in COVID-19 cases and its aggressive variants, Public Health directed the closure of all fitness facilities to help stem the spread of the virus. Since taking quick action, cases have begun to drop, and the government has cautiously begun to relax restrictions. As per the Reopening Plan announced last week, fitness facilities across the province may begin to open in Phase 2 of the plan.

As excited as we were to hear this news, additional factors have now impacted our ability to reopen our Fundy location. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been provided with notice that due to the building owners inability to secure proper insurance for the building as a whole, we will no longer be able to operate from this facility effective June 18th, 2021.

As we determine the next steps in this situation, at this time, we will not be reopening the facility. Until more information is provided by the building owners on their obligations to us and the tenants within this building, we will not be operating out of Basinview Centre. We are committed to continuing to serve our community and are working to find ways to do so. ABCC has partnered with us to provide space for us to run summer day camps, fitness classes, youth programming, and headquarter our operations while we work through this period of uncertainty.

Please know that this situation and decision has been challenging for us and as we learn more information, we will continue to keep you updated and informed. We know there are lots of questions and we are working hard to gather the information needed to provide you with a concise Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document by June 9th, 2021. We will look to answer questions such as:

  • Can I get a refund?
  • What happens with my Splash Passes?
  • Can I buy/borrow your equipment?
  • How and when do I register my child for Summer Day Camps?

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through all of this.

Sincerely,
